5 Small Towns Near New Braunfels Where Your Dollar Goes Way Further
Updated: Aug 7
New Braunfels gets most of the attention, but it is definitely not the only place worth looking.

Some of the best value in the area can be found in the small towns near New Braunfels, where buyers can often get more house, more land, or both without giving up easy access to everything they love about New Braunfels.
Less traffic. Bigger lots. More breathing room. And depending on where you buy, you may still be only 15 to 30 minutes away.
If your budget is starting to feel a little cramped in New Braunfels, these five nearby towns deserve a spot on your list.
Spring Branch
Best for: Acreage, privacy and Hill Country scenery
Spring Branch sits northwest of New Braunfels along the Highway 281 corridor and gives you the kind of Hill Country setting people picture when they move to Central Texas.
Think rolling terrain, mature oak trees, larger lots and significantly more space between neighbors.
You can find everything from traditional neighborhood homes to properties sitting on several acres.
Spring Branch is especially worth looking at if your New Braunfels budget keeps getting you a smaller lot than you actually want.
The trade-off? You will not have restaurants and shopping around every corner.
But if land, quiet and scenery rank higher than convenience, that might be exactly the point.
Garden Ridge
Best for: Larger lots with an easier San Antonio commute
Garden Ridge is tucked between New Braunfels and San Antonio near Natural Bridge Caverns Road.
It feels established, quiet and much less crowded than many newer suburban developments.
One of the biggest draws is lot size. Half-acre and acre properties are much more common here than they are in newer New Braunfels communities.
Garden Ridge also makes sense for buyers who work in San Antonio but still want to stay close enough to enjoy New Braunfels on weekends.
It is not necessarily the cheapest option on this list, but buyers can get a very different property for their money.
Bulverde
Best for: Hill Country living with more housing options
Bulverde has changed a lot over the last several years.
You can still find ranch-style properties and acreage, but newer neighborhoods and subdivisions have added plenty of options for buyers who want Hill Country surroundings without maintaining several acres.
It is popular with buyers who want more space than they are finding closer to San Antonio or central New Braunfels.
You are also close to Highway 281, Canyon Lake and plenty of Hill Country attractions.
If you want some land but Spring Branch feels a little too rural, Bulverde can be a good middle ground.
Schertz
Best for: Affordability, commuting and convenience
Schertz is a very different vibe from Spring Branch or Bulverde.
This is more suburban and practical.
You get established neighborhoods, shopping, restaurants, parks and easy access to I-35.
For buyers commuting toward San Antonio or Randolph Air Force Base, that location can be a major advantage.
Schertz is also one of the first places I would look if your priority is getting more house for your budget rather than acreage or Hill Country views.
You may give up some of the small-town scenery, but the convenience can be worth the trade.
Cibolo
Best for: Newer homes and buyers stretching their budget
Right next door to Schertz, Cibolo has grown quickly and continues to attract buyers looking for newer construction without New Braunfels pricing.
You will find newer subdivisions, modern floor plans and a lot of homes designed for first-time buyers and growing families.
Cibolo is more suburban than scenic, so if you are dreaming about oak trees and five acres, this probably is not your stop.
But if your priority is a newer home, manageable commute and more square footage for your money, it belongs on the list.

The biggest mistake buyers make is assuming they have to stay inside New Braunfels city limits to get the lifestyle they want.
Sometimes moving 20 minutes down the road changes what your budget can buy completely.
